Our Services in Guatemala

OSSHP is a non-profit, religious and humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical, educational, spiritual and social assistance to children, youth and adults in Guatemala in several facilities.

Since 1982, the Franciscan Friars (OFM) from Central América have been carryng out the mission of Santo Hermano Pedro, caring for disabled, abandoned, sick and needy, regardless of religious or race. At the Obras they find a place of hope and care.

OSSHP is driven by the needs of the poor and the sick. It takes loving care of 250 permanent residents, mostly abandoned by their families, with cerebral  palsy, psycomotor retardation, convulsive syndrome, chronic degenerative syndrom, among many other disorders.

It also provides specialized hospital care to over 350,000 people every year. The hospital is operated by permanent health care professionals from Guatemala that welcome and support medical missions from the United States, Canada and Spain throughtout the year, performing over 6,000 specialized surgeries.

OSSHP has a nutritional center that provides rehabilitation to children with chronic and severe malnutrition. The focus of this effort is to learn and disseminate best practices to other hospitals, both public and private, on how to rescue children and their families from this condition.

The newest Obras Sociales facility is Virgen del Socorro, located 5 kilometers from Antigua, on the slopes of Agua Volcano. 250 permanent residents live and are taken care of by a loving staff. Nearby in Antigua, at the original facility, the construction of new operating rooms will facilitate additional surgical care.
